If you find yourself in south-central Arizona (north of
Tucson, east of Phoenix), you'll discover some interesting places. Among
the ones we enjoyed were Besh-Ba-Gowah
Archaeological Park, a 14th-century Salado Indian ruin that has been
partially reconstructed; it's in the town of Globe. Further west on
Highway 60, near Superior,
is Boyce Thompson
Arboretum State Park. Built by a mining magnate who felt bad about the
destruction he was heaping on the surrounding land, it's a wonderful
display of plants that grow in arid areas around the world.
