Dining Room Extension Begins

Not content to just destroy the kitchen, we're also changing the dining room by extending it northward about 3 feet. That project began today, when Alex and Juan cut the patio to make room for the new foundation and floor. What began as an easy project turned a bit nasty when they discovered that the concrete there was 8–9 inches thick!

Meanwhile, Bob Jr. and John shored up the ceiling and the roof (inside and out) and removed the door and windows from the north side of the dining room before boarding up the gaping hole.

And in the Kitchen

They built a temporary wall to shore up the kitchen ceiling while they cut away the rest of the playroom wall. Tomorrow they'll place the beam that spans the new opening between kitchen and playroom.
