Events at ADZPCTKO 2003

• Several items were donated to the ADZ for the purpose of raising funds, including a one-of-a-kind G5 pack (donated by GVP Gear) with the main pack body made of a custom-woven lightweight spectra cloth.  On Saturday afternoon, these items were auctioned off. 
• The 3rd Annual Great Pacific Long Distance Hiking Gadget and Invention Revue (AGPLDHG&IR) showcased the creative talents and inventiveness of hikers in their quest to build lightweight solutions to meet the needs of long distance trekkers.
• The Shelter Review provided the skinny on tents, tarps, and other shelters used by PCT hikers.
• We had several presentations in the Pavilion, including:
  • "Plate Tectonics and the Geology of the Pacific Crest Trail," by 1977 thru hikers Greg "Strider" Hummel and Paul Hacker
  • "Flora and Fauna of the Pacific Crest Trail," by Christine Kudija, Charlie Jones, and Hal Margolis
  • Video of 2002 PCT hike (2,650 miles in 60 minutes!), by John Oldford
  • Llamapacking on the PCT, by Marion "Llamalady" Davison
  • Slide shows by previous PCT hikers
• Ron "Fallingwater" Moak sold Tyvek by the foot for use as a lightweight groundcloth.
• Roy Robinson, father of Calendar Year Triple Crown hiker "Flyin' Brian" Robinson, is also well known for developing lightweight alcohol stoves. He brought some homemade stoves to the kickoff, and demonstrated how to make them. 
• A volunteer group coordinated by the PCTA performed trail maintenance on the PCT south of Lake Morena.
• Representatives of the PCTA were available to answer questions throughout the weekend.
• A hiker box was available for pawing through other hikers' discards.
